Cernan Earth and Space Center 2000 N. 5th Avenue, River Grove (708) 583-3100
Grab your kids and blast off for an afternoon of cosmic education and fun! The Cernan Earth and Space Center is universally loved (no pun intended) by everyone from the little ones to great-grandparents. Have fun!
On the campus of Triton College, the Cernan Earth and Space Center consists of the Space Hall, exhibits on space exploration, artifacts from the Apollo era, and the Dome Theater, a 100-seat venue with a planetarium space projector.
The Dome Theater offers three different types of shows. The general Earth and Sky Shows are educational and entertaining examinations of astronomical and scientific topics, including imaginary voyages through the solar system, multimedia programs on dinosaurs and simulated aurora borealis demonstrations. Children's Shows are designed for kids ages 3 to 8 and take a more lighthearted and simple approach. Laser Light Shows have been a staple of the Cernan Center since the late 1970s, choreographing multicolored laser lights and other lighting effects to a soundtrack of rock music by such artists as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, U2, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. Not just for dazed and confused post-teens, these shows are fun diversions for all kinds of music fans.
River Grove is only just outside Chicago on the northwest border of the City line, so getting there is a snap. Take a short drive to this fun and interesting center!
