The McCormick Freedom Museum is the nation’s first museum dedicated to
freedom and the First Amendment. Through interactive exhibits, visitors
come to gain a greater understanding of the ongoing struggle for
freedom in the United States and around the world. The museum also
inspires future generations to value and protect their First Amendment
Rights: religion, speech, press, assembly and petition.
Directions: Located in the heart of Chicago along The Magnificent Mile, the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum is located in the first two floors of the historic Tribune Tower.
If you are driving: •From the North—Drive south on Lake Shore Drive, exit at Michigan Avenue. •From the Northwest—Take I-90/94, exit Ohio Street, go east to Michigan Avenue, turn right and go three blocks. The museum will be on your left at Illinois Street. •From the South—Go north on Lake Shore Drive, exit Illinois Street/Grand Avenue, follow signs to Michigan Avenue. •From the Southwest—Take I-55 to Lake Shore Drive north, exit on Illinois Street/Grand Avenue, follow signs to Michigan Avenue.
If taking public transportation: •CTA Busses—Bus routes along Michigan Avenue: 11, 33, 125, 145, 146, 147, 151, 157. Bus routes between either Union or Northwestern Stations and Michigan Avenue: 125, 151, 157. •CTA Subway and Elevated Trains—Take the Red Line to the State/Grand Avenue stop; walk east to Michigan Avenue; south to Illinois Street. Take the Brown or Purple Line to the State and Lake Street stop; walk east to Michigan Avenue and north over the bridge.
