1 Lake, Zion, Illinois. A short drive north of Chicago, this park offers six and a half miles of quiet, sandy beach along Lake Michigan. It encompasses 4,160 acres of dunes, forests, and marshes. Fishing is available along the beach or in Sand Pond. There are miles of trails for biking and hiking, along with camping sites at the southern end of the park. 847-662-4811.
