Near Portage, Wisconsin (30 miles north of Madison, Wisconsin) Cascade Mountain is a great bet if you feel like blowing off some steam on the slopes this winter. Cascade has pretty much something for everyone, so your whole family will be happy here.

Cascade Mountain boasts 27 runs, including 2 terrain parks and 2 halfpipes for the snowboarders in the group, and even 4 chutes and 2 tows for "snowtubers!" 10 trails are rated "easiest," 5 trails are rated "more difficult," and 12 trails are rated "most difficult" - which is a pretty even spread. On top of that, there is a 460 foot vertical drop, and the trails get up to a mile long, so this obviously isn't just a bump in the road.

Cascade Mountain is consistently open from November 17th thru March 17th, and will be able to see you through those warmer days of winter. "How?" you wonder? Because they've recently installed the midwest's 1st automatic snowmaking system!

Skiing hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday & Peak Periods, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays. Night skiing is from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Monday - Saturday, and from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Sundays; there are 18 lighted trails. So, they're pretty much open all day, every day.

As far as getting up the mountain, Cascade offers a high-speed detachable quad chair, 2 regular-old quad chairs, 3 triple chairs, and 2 double chairs. Together they manage to get 15,300 skiers per hour up the hill.

Directions
Take I 90/94 north to exit 106. Then just go west on Highway 33 for 1/4 mile, turn left on Cascade Mtn. Road, and there you are! It should take you about 3 hours.
